Spanish learning that comes alive through games, culture, and hands-on experiences!
Arrival: Play in groups: choose from card games, board games & interactive centers
Conversation Circle: Practice basic Spanish introductions, greetings, and small talk
Mini-Lesson: Learn Spanish vocabulary through thematic songs, cultural videos, and practice
Games Outside: Line up with your amigo and head outside to play games and use español
Banco & Tienda: Exchange dollars for pesos and buy some authentic snacks or souveneirs
Games Inside: Line up with your amigo and play active games inside
Craft: Finish the day making a culturally-based craft and pack up
Pick-up: Students review what we learned that day and line up with their amigo for pick up.
AMIGOS Summer Program
The Amigos Summer Program is designed to help students experience Spanish in a fun, active, and meaningful way. Instead of sitting at desks and memorizing vocabulary, students learn Spanish through games, movement, culture, and hands-on activities.
Each day students hear and use Spanish naturally while playing, exploring traditions, food, music, and everyday life from Spanish-speaking cultures. The goal is for students to build confidence with the language while having an experience that feels more like fun than learning.
What Makes the Program Unique
The Amigos Summer Program is designed to feel different from a typical classroom. From the moment students arrive, they jump right into activities that get them moving, interacting, and using Spanish in natural ways.
Students play games, spend time outside, dance, create crafts, and explore cultural traditions from Spanish-speaking countries and on hot days we cool off with water play.
One favorite activity is visiting our banco to exchange dollars for Mexican pesos. Then visiting our tienda where students buy authentic souvenirs and authentics snacks to try! These experiences help students see how language connects to everyday life and culture.
A Typical Day at AMIGOS
A typical day at the Amigos Summer Program includes a mix of active play, creative activities, and cultural exploration.
Students start the morning with a choice of games that introduce new Spanish words and phrases. Our first group activities start with introductions and a mini-lesson with conversational practice and cultural content. Next students play games outside if the weather is good! Then we come inside to echange money at our banco and have a snack. Students can shop at our tienda. Afterwards we play more games inside, sing songs and dance. Lastly they create crafts inspired by a Spanish-speaking countries and pack up to go home.
Spanish is woven naturally into everything we do so that students begin to recognize and use the language with confidence.
Who the Program Is For
The Amigos Summer Program is designed for elementary and middle school students. No previous Spanish experience is required. Beginners as well as students who have already had some exposure to the language are welcome.
Students who enjoy games, creativity, and learning about different cultures will feel right at home and have fun.
What Students Gain
By the end of the program, students leave with more than just new vocabulary. They gain confidence hearing and using conversational Spanish, curiosity about different cultures, and the sense that language learning can be fun and meaningful.
Most importantly, students build positive memories with Spanish that encourage them to continue learning and exploring the language in the future.
